The Bride

Greetings, Creeps! It's time to play dress up, again, because it's Friday! Today, I'm featuring my absolute favorite movie "monster": Bride of Frankenstein! (Cue rolling thunder in the background.)




I'd like to eventually live in a climate that allows me to wear this outfit of hers out on Halloween night. Unfortunately, it's usually pretty stinking cold here by the time the end of October has arrived. This picture, however, is a great reference for her stitches...and it's just adorable!




My best option is going with the floor-length dress that she wears while becoming reanimated, which is a great, warm option for freezing Utah! The above photo is from a forum (follow link in photo) thread discussing the BoF costume. The thread includes instructions on how to make a human sized version of this costume--see example below!




Here's a photo of a completed look of the drapey Bride. Really well done, if you ask me!




And, just for fun, an older BoF children's costume, mask included. I kind of want it to wear while creating chaos, bonus points if it doesn't fit well at all.

The most challenging part of a Bride of Frankenstein costume is figuring out how to get your hair to deny all laws of physics and do the thing. Luckily, I was able to find a pretty simple tutorial on how to make it work in a stable, secure way. Thank god for YouTube.

Igor's Hump

It's hump day...again. I don't know about you guys, but it's been a bit of a slow starter for me. Luckily, there are some interesting (and creepy) pages to haunt today!




Both mystery and fact have proven to be chilling when it comes to Slender Man; so, naturally, I enjoy occasionally reading up on the latest conspiracies and findings centered around him. This article offers small, interesting bits of information regarding Slender Man, as well as a few other creepy stories (click the photo).




Get your 72 hour kits, shotguns, and large toilet paper stocks ready, as apparently another potentially-realistic creep is the zombie, or at least that's what this doctor thinks. Additions For The Creepy Playlist

Happy Monday, sweet Spooks!

I had a completely different blog planned out until I scrolled on Facebook this morning and stumbled across this article from Bloody-Disgusting! It piqued my interest, as my mind was already on music; and I love finding good creepy stuff that's outside of the Halloween genre. Upon seeing Radiohead mentioned, my boyfriend looked over and started to talk to me about other creepy music he's found and would either add to the list or put in his own. Here are the two he mentioned:

Tomb of Ligiea by Team Sleep


Chill, but also super spooky. Team Sleep's music is generally creepy, actually. I may have to binge to find some of my favorites!


Ghosts by David Thomas and Two Pale Boys


This song is really great for creepy ambiance.

Horse Latitudes by The Doors


This one gives me the chills nearly every time. And I freaking love The Doors.


Stubborn Love by The Lumineers


I know this one may seem out of place; but, believe it or not, this song creeped the hell out of me the first few times I heard it (it was mostly the weird moans in the chorus that would barely find my ears in the middle of the night when I used to sleep with a radio on). I admit, it may have been a circumstantial creep; but that doesn't keep this song from coming to mind whenever I think 'creepy'.


Lucifer's Chorale by HIM


This is another one that's awesome for ambiance; and it kind of has a different type of spookiness to it. The difference is hard to explain in words, at least for me; so give it a listen to see what I mean.


As mentioned above, I love finding spooky music outside of the Halloween/Horror genre. I feel it helps bridge the gap between that one happy month and the rest of the year (you know, while we're all prepping for that one happy month). It also helps blend goofy Halloween songs into a playlist without their sticking out like sore thumbs whenever they come up because that ambiance has been set.

While you're out having a good time or in having your own time, you may want a little something to drink to help soften the edges of a cold winter evening. Behold. the Corpse Reviver No. 2.

I lost the source for this recipe in the sea of Tumblr, so if anyone happens to know the originator of this recipe, please let me know so I can give credit where it's due!

Ingredients:
1 oz. Lemon Juice
1 oz. Lillet Blanc
1 oz. Orange Liqueur
1 oz. Dry Gin
1 dash Absinthe
1 Maraschino Cherry

Preparation:
Shake all ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice and strain into a (chilled) glass. Drop in one Cherry.

It's dress up time at Widower's Way on Fridays, as dressing up is a large part of the Halloween experience! To kick this topic off, I thought I'd cover everyone's favorite (at least, it has been recently): Harley Quinn!

I very much love the culture of comics; however I never had enough interest to actually read (or, in Harley's case, watch). I can appreciate the concept of a nutso gorgeous clown lady who's up for fucking shit up in the name of love, though.

I mostly chose Harley Quinn as the first character I cover because I actually have a shot of myself as Harley Quinn!

What's a HQ costume/cosplay without her ridiculously big mallet?! I found a simple, easy to follow tutorial on YouTube:

I haven't looked too closely at this YouTuber's videos; but, based on this video alone, she's quite clear and concise and is great at keeping you hooked. Axceleration Cosplay has a lot of awesome-looking tutorials for countless cosplays. Check her out!

I'm not sure if everyone's sick of looking at the various renditions of the Harley look (I was for a while); but she's a fun character to be for a day. So, happy haunting; and, as always, stay spooky!!!

Happy Wednesday, everyone! I hope you all are getting through the week alright--keeping warm and well-fed and all that good stuff! Here's some creepy entertainment, just in case today needs to be improved upon.



I found a Buzzfeed list of terrifying old costumes (follow links in photos for the full list). Here are a few to chill your blood.




Geez. I'm curious what characters these people were attempting to portray. To me, it looks like they were looking at their closet and just thought, "You know what, I just want to be really fucking scary today. No particular creature or character--just generally terrifying." And then they put these costumes on and succeeded at being generally terrifying for generations.




This one's probably my favorite from the list because, well, it's probably going to haunt my nightmares tonight. Seriously. What the hell.




Had to share the skeleton because at least one person on this list went with a bit of tradition. It's an old costume, but I can definitely tell what he or she is creeping as. The skull mask is awesome--perfectly creepy but also still a bit goofy. This looks like it was a fun costume to wear around.



Now, I don't know about you guys; but I love me a good spooky story. Luckily, a few months back, I found a great YouTube channel that delivers just that--hundreds of creepy stories, some accompanied with videos or photos to try to explain. There are a few options on YouTube when it comes to channels for spooky stories; but the channel I'm about to share has the highest quality in his work. I shared him last week, as well, and may continue to share a video of his every Wednesday. His stories are just that much fun to listen to!




If you like creepy...but not too creepy; I've also found a neat YouTuber who explores abandoned houses. Personally, I could watch hours of abandoned home footage, so I thought there might be a few of my followers who would appreciate, as well!

Today In Horror News!

Good morning, Spooks!

My first find this morning is a little bit creepy, a little bit cool.




A tiny, brightly lit Christmas tree was placed in the window of an abandoned hospital in New Orleans, noticed by a nurse who worked nearby. Nobody knows how that tree got there or where it's getting power for its lights, but it's there and very eerie. As a side note, the more I stare at the creepy old buildings the tree is in, the more I really want to explore them. It's got to be interesting in there. Next up in horror news, I remember hearing whispers about a new Halloween movie being made; however, those hopes are now dashed, as not only has production stopped, but Dimension Films (who was filming it) has also lost all rights to the franchise. Pretty shitty, but who knows? I'd kind of like to see Rob Zombie get his hands on a Halloween remake, personally. We'll see. For more details and links, follow the link in the photo or this one.


Finally, on a more positive note, I was just scrolling through Twitter (follow me!) and noticed that one of my favorite spooky bloggers, Justine (link leads to her Twitter, but her blog URL is in her description there if you'd like to check it out), has started a newsletter that promises to be filled with fun Halloween goodies as well as craft ideas and recipes, for those who like to enjoy a bit of domestication once in a while. I'm one of those people, so I've already got my e-mail address on that list!
